How to Choose the Right Jumbo Bag: Key Factors to Consider

Before ordering a jumbo bag, understanding a few key factors — from safe working load to loop type — helps you choose exactly the right product for your load and handling method.

Choosing the right jumbo bag starts with a simple question: what load will it carry, at what weight, and how will it be handled? Safe Working Load (SWL) is the starting point for every decision — it must match or exceed the actual filled weight, and a safety factor (the ratio between the bag's actual breaking load and its rated SWL) is typically built into the design to keep it safe under the shocks of loading and handling.

Loop type (the lifting handles) is the second major factor. Single-loop and two-loop jumbo bags are simpler to handle with a forklift or crane using one or two lifting points; four-loop (cross-corner) designs offer more stability during lifting and suit more sensitive or unevenly distributed loads better. Loopless (flat) jumbo bags are designed for cases where the bag is handled another way (for example, on a conveyor), not lifted from above.

The need for an inner liner depends on what's inside the bag. Powdery, fine-grained, or moisture-sensitive materials usually need a separate polyethylene liner to prevent fine particles from escaping through the fabric's pores and to keep ambient moisture out. For materials without that sensitivity (coarse aggregates, for instance), a liner usually isn't necessary and the added cost can be skipped.

If the bag will spend time outdoors exposed to sunlight — whether in temporary storage or during a long transit — UV-stabilizing additives in the fabric become important; without them, UV exposure can weaken polypropylene's strength over a few months. Finally, fabric weight (measured in grams per square meter, or by yarn denier) is tuned to match capacity and usage conditions — a heavier bag isn't automatically better, it should be matched precisely to the load and its conditions.
